By Kevin Bartley, Division Manager with Nexus 5 Group
So this Employee Spotlight is going to be a little different than most that I've done. This will be a combination of Employee Spotlight and Success Story.
Cameron started working for Nexus 5 Group in May 2019.
With very little construction experience, I took him in on a recommendation from his Father In-Law that was employed here at that time. All I knew was that he worked in the Food Industry and just wanted to change careers.
Fortunately, we had a couple of entry level jobs as helpers on the HVAC side. I interviewed Cameron and he was very well spoken, so I decided to give him a shot. Cameron started off as a helper on the install side, but we quickly noticed that he had a very good understanding of what was going on and was learning things very quickly. Much quicker than usual.
So after about 6 months on that side, his Superintendent came to me and told me that he wanted to train Cameron to be a service Tech. I've been in this business for 25 years and RARELY do I see anyone move up the ladder that quickly. I was hesitant at first, but Curt Ledom (Superintendent) assured me that he would take him under his wing and teach him the Service Tech Ways. After about 6 months, we gave Cameron a service van, some uniforms, and he hit the streets.
Fast forward a year...
Cameron has excelled at every task thrown at him. He has a technical mind that allows him to capture the entire concept of HVAC. As of right now, Cameron is our Lead Technician and most requested in the company. I could go on and on about how great Cameron is and how fortunate that Nexus 5 Group is to have him on our team.
The younger Techs look up to him and he provides both mentoring and support for other Techs in the field. I look for great things to keep happening for this guy. Cameron's story shows that if you have the drive, support system and are willing to learn... You can do anything you want.
Here at Nexus 5 Group, we will provide you the tools to succeed and if you're like Cameron, that eager to learn and ready to take charge kind of person, then the door is wide open. For me personally, these are the employees that we seek out. If you follow our blogs, Cameron falls under the “Ride or Die” group. This was explained more in one of my previous blogs.
I wanted Cameron to share some of his thoughts...
I started at Nexus 5 Group in May of 2019. Beforehand, I had predominately spent my adult life working through the ranks in the food industry and decided I didn't want to spend the rest of my life there. I had tried out a couple of different jobs, but nothing stuck. My father-in-law said there was an opening with him at Nexus 5 Group, and it was the foot in the door I needed.
Kevin Bartley gave me a shot. Having no construction experience, I had a mountain to climb; but, thankfully, the Nexus 5 Group saw the potential in me and gave me the training and guidance I've needed to rise to the top and continue learning and growing.
Without my Nexus 5 Family, I wouldn't be where I am today—a lead tech that is now able to pass down the learning and training I've gained to those who were in the same position that I once was.
The weekend before I started at the Nexus 5 Group, I married my wonderful wife. Not only did I gain her, but I also gained my wonderful stepson and soon thereafter welcomed my daughter into the world. I will forever be thankful for what Nexus 5 Group has done for me and my family, and I look forward to the journey ahead. I aspire to spend the rest of my career with Nexus 5 Group learning, growing, leading, and helping this wonderful place give to others what was given to me! - Cameron Sasnett
