By Dani Heimsoth, Project Engineer with Nexus 5 Group
Strong Sense of Self. This is the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about Mac (Josh) McDonald. I don’t think I’ve ever met someone with so much confidence but so much compassion at the same time. This is invaluable as a PM, employee and coworker. His ability to interact, relate and work with clients is something that puts me in awe.
Josh is one of those people that you'll always remember after you've met him. He leaves an impression (as you can see in the pictures.) He draws you in. Josh is so unlike anyone else here at Nexus 5 Group. When I was asked to write about him, I had no idea what direction to take this story. I was leaning towards the ornery side (honestly so was everyone else) but then decided, with a lot of encouragement, we should really shine a light on what an amazing asset he is to the Nexus 5 Group family.
I'm one of the few people here at Nexus 5 Group that doesn’t work side-by-side with Josh on projects. My desk however, sits DIRECTLY in front of his office. I'm just a chicken shot away. Or an ear shot of the loudest coffee slurp known to man.
Outside of Work
Outside of work, Josh is involved with his church, community, slow pitch softball leagues, and he is a sports fanatic and coach for his son. He does have a few hobbies, but I wouldn’t call hunting his hobby... it's more of a lifestyle for him. As I'm writing this blog, he is currently enjoying the thrills of opening weekend for deer season.
I do enjoy staying up to date on the latest adventures of Liam and Lily. They are two amazing kids and a direct reflection of the great parenting done by Josh and Jamie. I asked Kevin Bartley what is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Josh. He said, “What I most admire about Mac, is how great of a father he is.”
Josh Green had a few wonderful things to contribute as well...
"Josh McDonald....where do i begin. So many things come to mind its hard to keep this short. I've worked very closely with Mac for the last three years on various projects. I've traveled with him, and spent most of our company related events with him. Through these things I’ve learned a lot about how he operates both in work mode and outside of work.
No matter what we're doing together, he has a passion about him. Whether it's putting together major renovation projects, small tenant improvement projects, sports (softball league), hunting and fishing, or just a casual day at the golf course, he has a passion for what he is doing. Josh spreads that to the people he is around. Whether I'm running a project for him or we are at the driving range together, I can sense his passion. What an infectious trait to share with the people around you!
He also has a passion for helping with things not related to work. He has been a great person to lean on and bounce things off of personally. He is always willing to listen or lend a helping hand. Some of these traits are hard to come by in this business, but I feel that's what makes Nexus 5 Group different. The ability to talk candidly about work and life."
Josh's Impact on Nexus 5 Group
Mac has had a true impact on Nexus 5 Group as a company and myself personally. Its a privilege to be on the same team! Our Motto: Have Fun, Make Money and Serve Well. He not only embodies this from a company stance but also in all aspects of his life.
Here is a quote from John Hinman, “Mac is our very own Box of Chocolates... ‘You never know what you’re going to get.' He will be selling a job one day, then has come in dressed as a bunny the next.”
One thing is for sure, Josh will ALWAYS put a smile on your face, even if you're fighting it. If you really can’t tell, we love Mac, he might know exactly how to push my buttons for fun... but he is definitely one of the first people I would call if I was stranded on the side of the road. He’s the brother I never asked for, but one I’m glad I gained.
Full disclosure, Josh will never let me live this down and will quote this blog on a daily basis.
